The Archer is built to last a lifetime, not crowd a landfill in a few years like so many of today's products. The upholstered pad is able to be replaced to suit changing decor and the wood finish is easily refreshed. The rear leaf springs can also quickly be replaced or changed to a different level of bounce if desired.
- Our ash wood is milled on location from trees killed by the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, once infected the larva feed on the inner bark layer critical for nutrient flow, the actual wood is unharmed and perfectly usable. There is no waste, the scraps help heat our studio and the dust mulches our garden. It's less than 300 feet from stump to studio for all of the ash used.
- Our cherry and walnut lumber is milled from local urban trees damaged by storms or felled for development. Urban trees, despite the quality, are rarely used by commercial lumber mills because of the risk of blade damaging metal embedded in the trunk, leaving most to rot in a landfill.
- Only the highest quality old growth mahogany will work for the rails of a bowchair, a difficult and environmentally irresponsible commodity to obtain these days. Our mahogany is reclaimed from obsolete industrial QC fixtures made at least 25 years ago. Prime mahogany has long been used for quality control gages because of it's dimensional stability. Our current supply was obtained at several factory salvage auctions over the last decade mainly from out-of-business body panel and engine component manufacturers for the auto industry.
- Tung oil wood finish created from a natural renewable resource. It cures in the wood and not on top of it, so there's never a plastic film to chip, flake, or become airborne like varnish, urethanes, and lacquers. Brush-on application prevents stray aerosol pollution.
- Low VOC, 100% Formaldehyde, PVA, and urea free adhesives used. Epoxy is completely inert once cured.
- Polyurethane based vegan faux-leather is 100% PVC, phthalate, and cruelty free.
- Recast faux leather is 100% PVC and phthalate free. The animal leather content is reconstituted from tannery waste.
- Nitrile rubber foam padding contains no brominated/halogenated fire-retardants or plasticizers.
- Poly batting is made from 100% recycled plastic water bottles.
- Aerospace grade carbon fiber was produced in the United States under strict environmental standards and controls.
- Raw materials are obtained from the nearest sources possible, most within a state or two, to minimize transportation based pollution.
- Lightweight design is packaged in a way that allows carbon neutral shipment to the customer via UPS, the greenest package delivery company in the United States for 2014- 2018 as ranked by Newsweek.
